De- as a prefix used to indicate reversal of communion, orginating from the Latin communio, a sharing held in common. As rooms and homes themselves are reshaped, the spaces for this connection are slowly disappearing alongside the traditions they once held, such as screen-free family dinners or in-person gatherings.
