Identity & Belief

Credosynthesis

(n.)

A personal belief system assembled from many faiths and philosophies at once, each tradition contributing the parts that ring true and none claimed whole.

At their wedding, the credosynthesis was built into the "muppah," a loving mashup of the Hindu mandap and Jewish chuppah.

Does it ring true?

From the future, or already here?

Coinage notes

From credo (Latin, “I believe”) + synthesis, a putting-together. The echo of photosynthesis is appropriate, as the two words share the same ending. A plant converts scattered light into its own living tissue; the credosynthesist converts scattered beliefs the same way, absorbing what nourishes them and leaving the rest.
